Sunrise and Sunset around the UK
A collection of sunrise and sunset images from England and Scotland in the UK. Morecambe is on my doorstep, and renowned for its sunsets and I include many images from around Morecambe Bay, including views across the Bay to the hills of the Lake District. The sunrises can be as stunning as the sunsets, and the early morning departures of small fishing boats provide some unique and spectacular scenes. As sunsets develop the colours can change rapidly from gold to orange to red and then on to purples and blues. Capturing these moments in time while creating an interesting image is always a challenge. Cambridgeshire was my home for many years, and some of my images available here were featured in the National Media.

Field Spaniel
The Field Spaniel is a medium-sized sporting dog breed known for its friendly disposition and versatility in various dog activities. Originally developed in England, the breed was historically used for hunting and retrieving in the field. Field Spaniels are characterized by their attractive, well-balanced appearance, with a sturdy build, long ears, and a silky coat that comes in solid colors such as liver, black, or roan. They have expressive, dark eyes that convey intelligence and warmth. Known for their amiable nature, Field Spaniels are friendly, affectionate, and generally get along well with children and other pets. Despite their sporting heritage, they make excellent companions for families in both urban and rural settings. Regular exercise, mental stimulation, and social interaction are essential for keeping a Field Spaniel happy and healthy. Training is generally straightforward, as these dogs are eager to please and responsive to positive reinforcement.

Tommy
Tommy is a statue of a First World War soldier by artist Ray Lonsdale, displayed close to Seaham war memorial, on Terrace Green by the seafront in Seaham, County Durham, in North East England. The corten steel statue weighs 1.2 tonnes (1.2 long tons; 1.3 short tons) and is 9 feet 5 inches (2.87 m) tall, with a rusty red patina. It depicts a First World War soldier, wearing boots, puttees, greatcoat and tin hat, sitting on an ammunition box, with downcast eyes, holding the barrel of his grounded rifle in his right hand. It is officially named 1101 (or Eleven-O-One), referring to the first minute of peace as the armistice came into force at 11am on 11 November 1918, but is more popularly known as Tommy, referring to the archetype private soldier Tommy Atkins.

Bullmastiff
The Bullmastiff is a powerful and imposing breed that strikes a balance between strength and gentleness. Developed in the 19th century in England, this breed was originally created to act as a night guardian, combining the traits of the Mastiff and the Bulldog. Bullmastiffs possess a muscular build, a short coat that requires minimal grooming, and a distinctive furrowed brow. Renowned for their unwavering loyalty and protective instincts, they are devoted to their families and naturally suspicious of strangers, making them exceptional watchdogs. Despite their imposing size, they are typically gentle, affectionate, and known for their even temperament, making them excellent companions and dependable guardians for those they hold dear. Regular exercise and early socialization are essential to shape their well-mannered and amicable behavior. Their devoted nature and protective instincts make them a remarkable addition to households seeking a loving, vigilant, and loyal canine companion.

Jurassic Coast
The Jurassic Coast is a World Heritage Site on the English Channel coast of southern England. It stretches from Exmouth in East Devon to Studland Bay in Dorset, a distance of about 96 miles (154 km), and was inscribed on the World Heritage List in mid-December 2001. The site spans 185 million years of geological history, coastal erosion having exposed an almost continuous sequence of rock formation covering the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. Natural features seen on this stretch of coast include arches, pinnacles and stack rocks. The area around Lulworth Cove contains a fossil forest, and 71 different rock strata have been identified at Lyme Regis, each with its own species of ammonite. The Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre provides information on the heritage coast, and the whole length of the site can be visited via the South West Coast Path.
