Norfolk Staithes and Harbours
Centuries ago Vikings traded along the Norfolk Coast and accessed coastal villages using the narrow creeks and rivers. As time passed the creeks were used for fishing boats to offload their catch. At first the fish were transferred up the muddy banks by hand and later using wooden moorings until finally concrete quays were built. These moorings are still used today by fishing boats and recreational sailors.

Mousehole Cornwall
Mousehole is a picturesque fishing village on the south coast of Cornwall between Penzance and Land’s End. It was sacked by the Spaniards in July 1595 when the entire village, apart from one house, was burnt to the ground. That house still stands today. A hundred years ago Mousehole was a bustling port, crowded with local fishing boats, landing pilchards. Each year, early in November, timber beams are laid across the narrow harbour entrance, to protect the village from the worst of the winter gales. Even so waves can still be seen breaking over the harbour wall at high tide.

Fornalutx is a village with just 700 souls in the Serra de Tramuntana in the north of Mallorca close to Soller . With its narrow winding lanes, stone houses and stone steps, the place is an architectural jewel on the west coast of Mallorca. Fornalutx has been named the "most beautiful village in Spain" twice in recent history. The mountain village nestles on the flanks of Puig Major, which is the highest mountain on the island with an altitude of 1,445 m. Terraces of vineyards and wooded slopes surround the village and the scent of lemon and orange blossom runs through the streets. In front of the entrances are buckets of flowering oleander shrubs, hibiscus and olive trees

Sefton coastline
My favourite images of the Sefton coastline & the Sefton Coastal Path. Beginning at Waterloo & stretching as far north as the seaside town of Southport, the Sefton coast is a "site of special scientific interest" & is home to rare butterflies, wild orchids, sand lizards, waders & natterjack toads. The southern point at Crosby beach is home to Another Place, the art installation created & modelled on sculptor Antony Gormley where 100 Iron Men look out into the Irish Sea, backed by sand dunes. Central parts of the coastline are made up from Hightown & Formby, before you reach Ainsdale, Birkdale then finally Southport.

Oystercatchers
The oystercatchers are a group of waders forming the family Haematopodidae, which has a single genus, Haematopus. They are found on coasts worldwide apart from the polar regions and some tropical regions of Africa and South East Asia. The exceptions to this are the Eurasian oystercatcher, the South Island oystercatcher, and the Magellanic oystercatcher, which also breed inland, far inland in some cases. In the past there has been a great deal of confusion as to the species limits, with discrete populations of all black oystercatchers being afforded specific status but pied oystercatchers being considered one single species.
