Cambois in Northumberland
The village of Cambois in Northumberland is situated on the north side of the estuary of the River Blyth. Once a flourishing coalmining area the village is mostly residential following the closure of Cambois Colliery in 1968. There is a lovely stretch of sandy beach runni9ng from the mouth of the River Wansbeck to the storage silos belonging to the Port of Blyth. There is 'promise' of further development relating to offshore wind and the manufacture of batteries which should give the whole area a much needed boost.
Black And White
Black and white photography allows us to see line and shape in compositions more easily. Removing colour can help focus more on the story and emotion within the image that the photographer wants to show us. Some of the photos in this collection are developed as true black and white, some with very slight tints, but there are a couple that are as shown here as they were originally - naturally monochrome with just a hint of colour. Can you spot them?
Toned Black And White Images
Sometimes a straight black and white image can be just be a bit too stark, perhaps giving the photograph a cold feeling. Many times I like to give monochrome photographs a hint of colour, maybe a split toned image with cool blue in the shadows and warmer yellow, orange or red in the highlights. Or perhaps an old classic look with a sepia tint. If that's what you think is right for you please take a look at this small collection.
