Hot Air Balloons Over Cappadocia
One of the most popular tourist sites in Turkey are the wonderful fairy chimney rock formations of Cappadocia at sunrise seen from a hot air balloon. Every sunrise hundreds of hot air balloons rise above Cappadocia and float amongst stunning towering rock pillars known as fairy chimneys. Inside many of these were built cave houses, churches and even monasteries where early Christian came to escape persecution. This gallery is dedicated to one of the great hot air balloon flights of the world and to the truly spectacular rock formations of Cappadocia.
Sacred Places of Europe, Near East & North Africa
It seems that man has always needed Gods to explain the un-explainable in the world. Prehistoric man has left pictoglyphs and cave paintings which may have been used in religious ceremonies. Ancient man has left us depictions of thousands of gods, such as those show in the colourful hieroglyphics of the Ancient Egyptians, or in the enigmatic stone carved gods of the Hittites found in their sacred places. The ancient Greeks and Roman have left wonderful sculptures depicting their gods and goddesses who were associated with sacred places in the Mediterranean. More recently great religions such as Christianity, Judaism and Islam have created sacred places that have become centres of pilgrimage for millions every year. This gallery of photos is dedicated to the endless variety of sacred places to be found in Europe, the Near East and North Africa.
Neolithic Circles & Standing Stones
The greatest legacy our prehistoric Neolithic ancestors have left us are the great standing stone circles, and stone dolmen burial chambers, found in the British Isles and Brittany. One can only marvel at how stone age man cut the great stones, then moved them, finally standing them to make great stone circles. Stonehenge is a marvel of stone masonry, logistical transport and engineering which came together in an iconic design that is known throughout the world. The photos in this gallery are a testament to our ancestors and the wonderful stone structures that left for us to marvel at. I hope you enjoy them as much as I have done.
